In April 2008, Nigeria became one of the first African countries to benefit from revolutionary mobile television technology with the launch of DStv Mobile, a partnership between cellular operator MTN and Details Nigeria.(Dstv multichoice, multichoice,dstv africa,dstv guide in Nigeria)

DStv Mobile from MTN re-affirms the DStv brand as a leader in innovation, and its commitment to continuously providing Nigerians with innovative television, control and enjoyment of their viewing. MultiChoice Nigeria also believes it is important for corporate Africa to make a contribution to the continent’s development. Education and access to information are key to the development and growth of a nation, and therefore we have invested in MultiChoice Resource Centres in schools across the country. These centres provide input into education through the depth and breadth of DStv’s educational and documentary programming. Students in 80 various schools are now able to better understand sophisticated concepts that are difficult to grasp without a visual experience. To further bolster MultiChoice Nigeria’s investment in the education sector, we have adopted a school in the Ikorodu division of Lagos and are pledging $175,000 to the school. MultiChoice Nigeria has also collaborated with the Sickle Cell Foundation of Nigeria, a non governmental and non-profit making organisation dedicated to the care and control of Sickle Cell Disorder in Nigeria. MultiChoice Nigeria decided to partner with the foundation, located in Surulere in Lagos, to help with the introduction and coordination of services relevant to the management and control of the disorder. In order to broaden the reach of the message, we will film short clips of anaemic suffers discussing the disorder and the impact it has on their lives. These clips will be aired on terrestrial television. Dstv focus on local programming means that we also invest heavily in new content initiatives, and the training of Nigerian film crews and production staff. Our content partner M-Net’s investment in content includes the AfricaMagic channel, which showcases Nigerian movies to the rest of Africa, and the commissioning of new channels such as SuperSport Select. Nigeria’s film industry - Nollywood has become the world’s third largest producer of movies, and a key driver of the popularity of African content across the continent. MultiChoice and M-Net’s aim has always been to create great TV for Nigerian audiences, in partnership with the Nigerian TV industry. In Nigeria MultiChoice has established MultiChoice Resource Centres in one hundred and sixty one schools. The MRCs have been rolled out in partnership with the Ministry/Department of Education.
